Pharmaceutical Chemistry

The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry conducts lectures on general chemistry, organic chemistry, pharmaceutical/medicinal chemistry, and pharmaceutical analysis for undergraduate students in the four-year Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm) program.

The B. Pharm course starts with general chemistry and organic chemistry, which are essential subjects. Organic chemistry is especially important because it is the basis of all life on our planet. Our department is well-prepared to teach these basics, providing a strong foundation for the rest of the course. This foundation helps students in all other subjects they will study in the B. Pharm program. An organic chemist can specialize in many areas, like synthetic chemistry, bioorganic chemistry, natural products, physical organic chemistry, organometallic chemistry, computational chemistry, or materials chemistry. Just as music needs notation, biology needs chemistry, and our department is ready to help students take their first steps in learning about chemistry.

The course is well-organized to prepare graduates for careers in academia and the pharmaceutical industry. The subject covers practical aspects like qualitative analysis, quantitative analysis, compound synthesis, and formulation assays.
